This simplified take on birria skips the complicated steps without sacrificing the comfort-food payoff. The slow-cooked beef is packed with bold flavor and couldn't be easier to make.
Ingredients
-
Any 2lb beef roast you can find, well-marbled preferred
-
2 standard size packets of Fire & Smoke Society Taco Seasoning
-
1 packet Fire & Smoke Society Au Jus Gravy Mix
-
1 8oz can tomato sauce
-
1 32oz box beef broth
Directions
Slice roast into large chunks and season with one taco packet.
Over a ripping-hot flame, sear chunks of meat until a dark (but not burnt) crust forms.
Pull meat and set aside.
In a slow cooker or dutch oven set to low heat, whisk in tomato sauce, the second taco seasoning packet, and au jus mix.
Add meat and beef broth. Simmer for about 5 hours or until the meat is fork-tender.
Shred meat and fully incorporate sauce for a savory taco or quesadilla filling.
